Tick-borne disease surveys
Ticks are a serious health threat in Lithuania. Pathogens in the saliva and intestines of these small parasites, such as Borrelia burgdorferi, which causes Lyme disease, and the tick-borne encephalitis virus, can be transmitted to humans through ingestion. Infection with these diseases can lead to serious health problems, including nerve, joint and muscle damage, mental and coordination problems.
Given the severity and frequency of these diseases, early laboratory tests are essential, especially after a tick bite or at the first sign of symptoms. Blood tests to detect specific antibodies are vital for a rapid diagnosis of the infection and for the initiation of treatment to prevent further complications. Early intervention not only avoids serious health consequences, but also reduces the risk of long-term disorders.
