Liver function tests

Liver function tests are important for detecting liver disorders that may remain asymptomatic for a long time but eventually progress to inflammation, cirrhosis or even cancer. The human liver performs vital functions, including synthesis and metabolism of substances, storage of minerals and vitamins and removal of toxic substances from the blood. The health of the liver has a direct impact on the health of the whole body, including the immune system, blood sugar and cholesterol levels, and hormone and enzyme activity. Tests can detect both acute and chronic liver damage, as well as viral or alcoholic hepatitis and cancer markers in the blood.
