Coagulation tests
A blood clotting test is an essential procedure that is mandatory before all surgical operations and is important for the diagnosis of bleeding disorders such as haemophilia. The test determines whether a bleeding disorder is congenital or acquired and helps to assess blood clotting indicators that may indicate dangerous conditions. Elevated clotting rates can signal the formation of thrombi, which can damage the walls of blood vessels or even travel to other organs, disrupting their supply of essential nutrients. This can lead to circulatory problems in the brain or heart, such as stroke or heart attack. On the other hand, too little clotting can lead to unstoppable bleeding, where, in the case of a serious injury, the blood doesn’t stop flowing due to the formation of an insufficient clot.
